GLASS on Grass Pride Volleyball

This annual, one-day grass volleyball tournament takes place during the Twin Cities GLBT Pride Celebration at the Pride Festival grounds. The number of games played will depend on the number of teams participating in the event. There will be competitive, intermediate, and recreational divisions offered.

Player Level: Beginner/Recreational
For those relatively new to the game of volleyball, those in the process of learning the basic skills of accurate serving, passing and doing three hits, or those looking for a low-pressure fun game. This division will not run an offense. No previous knowledge of volleyball is required.
  • Where/When: Tuesdays at Minnehaha Academy Lower and Middle School
  • Time: 7 PM - 9:30 PM
  • Cost: $5 - $7 per night (cost is dependent on number of participants)
  • Players draw numbers for which team they play on for the evening.

Player Level: Intermediate
For those who have learned the basic skills of serving, passing and doing three hits. This division will run an offense and players will learn the dynamics and strategies of a 5-1 or 6-2 offense.
  • Where/When: Mondays at MSC
  • Time: 6:30 PM - 9 PM
  • Cost: $5 per night (April - Sept); $7 - $10 per night (Oct - Mar)
  • Players draw numbers for which team they play on for the evening. Individuals are expected to fully understand running a 5-1 offense with fixed positions, be knowledgeable of safe practices, and be proficient in volleyball fundamentals.
  • No Parking in YWCA lot without a member permit. Non-YWCA members must park on the street or in the overlow lot across the street to the east

  • Where/When: Thursdays at Minnehaha Academy Lower and Middle School
  • Time: 7 PM - 9:30 PM
  • Cost: $5 - $7 per night (cost is dependent on number of participants)
  • Players are placed on a team by the organizer for which they play on for the evening to level out fair play. Players may also have the option at times to come with teammates to practice their 5-1 rotation. All that come are expected to be receptive in improving their knowledge of the game, be proficient in volleyball fundamentals, and willing to learn safe practices.

Player Level: Advanced
Players will consistently demonstrate advanced skills on both offense and defense and will be fully comfortable with a 5-1 or 6-2 offense.

Pickup Volleyball - Grass

GLASS presents summer grass volleyball for volleyball players of multiple skill levels. Play will be weekly, weather depending.

Volleyball League

Play the sport of volleyball in a formal league. League play is held at the Martin Luther King Community Center located on Nicollet Avenue just south of 40th Street.
  • Divisions: Men/Co-Ed Recreation or Women.
  • Register as a team or individual.
  • Registration is three weeks before play starts.
  • Costs: TBA
  • Seasons:
    Fall: Oct and November
    Winter: February and March
  • Registration for Fall starts in late August and early January for Winter

Sweaty Saturdays

Sweaty Saturdays are guided practices for intermediate players and those interested in refreshing their skills. Instead of coach-centered training, they are facilitated by peers who run drills and activities with intense repetition, continuous play, and support followed by an hour or so of 5:1 scrimmaging.

  • Time: 11AM - 2PM
  • Cost: $5 per person

Volleyball Clinic

These sessions are for those beginner/intermediate players interested in improving their skills, technique and knowledge of the game.

The first hour will offer clinics/drills covering volleyball fundamentals (passing/hitting/setting/serving, rotations/postions, offense (5:1, 6:2), etc). The remaining time will put those lessons into play.
